GLOSSARY TERM

SAM

Stands for: Standard Allowed Minute

The time an average trained operator needs to complete a sewing operation or an entire garment at a standard pace, including allowances.

Adding the SAM of every operation gives the garment’s SAM, which factories use to plan lines and to price labour. A plain T-shirt is around 9–10 SAM in our planning model; adding a pocket or taped seams raises it.
