GLOSSARY TERM

LC

Stands for: Letter of Credit

A bank’s written undertaking, issued at the buyer’s request, to pay the seller once the seller presents documents that comply with the credit’s terms.

An LC protects both sides: the seller knows payment is backed by a bank, and the buyer knows payment is released only against the agreed documents. LCs follow the ICC’s UCP 600 rules and carry bank fees.
