HS code
Stands for: Harmonized System code
An internationally standardised numeric code for classifying traded goods, whose first six digits are common worldwide and used by customs to set duty and statistics.
Garments fall mostly in chapter 61 (knitted or crocheted) and chapter 62 (not knitted). Countries add further digits for their own tariff, such as the EU’s CN code or the US HTS code. A wrong HS code can mean a wrong duty rate.
